A Burnsville artist is the winner of Minnesota's 2011 duck stamp contest.
A red-breasted merganser painted by Kevin Nelson will be featured on the 2011 Minnesota Migratory Waterfowl Stamp. It was chosen from among 23 entries in the competition sponsored by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
The other finalists were second-place winner Stephen Hamrick of Lakeville and third-place winner Tombo Beard of Circle Pines.
The winning artist gets no cash from the DNR, but retains the right to reproduce the work.
The $7.50 duck stamp is required of all Minnesota waterfowl hunters ages 18 through 64. Stamp sales generate between $500,000 and $900,000 per year for habitat projects.
