Farmington settles high school lawsuit

The Farmington school district has settled a lawsuit over the construction of its $94 million high school.

School board members approved a settlement Monday in which the DLR Group agreed to pay the district $3.6 million and make a $600,000 contribution to its building fund. Farmington schools will pay a $640,000 fee to the company.

DLR sued the district in 2008, accusing it of breaching its contract by firing the company after it built about 80 percent of the new school.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports the school district filed a counterclaim which accused DLR of violating the contract by building a school with fire and building code violations, as well as a defective plumbing system.
