A pilot was rescued after crashing his helicopter into a northeastern Minnesota lake early Friday.
St. Louis County Sheriff's Deputy Nick Voltzke says the chopper crashed on the west side of Island Lake shortly after taking off about 12:30 a.m.
Voltzke says some people on shore who witnessed the crash got in a boat and rescued the pilot, who was taken to a local hospital by ambulance. Authorities say the pilot was conscious and talking when he reached shore.
The Duluth News Tribune says the helicopter remains submerged in Island Lake.
