A Minnesota senator who lost the Republican primary plans to run as a write-in candidate.
Paul Koering represented Senate District 12 for eight years, but lost the August primary to former state Rep. Paul Gazelka.
Koering says he registered as a write-in candidate after getting "hundreds and hundreds" of calls and e-mails encouraging him to do so.
After the primary, Koering said he no longer considers himself a Republican. The St. Cloud Times reports Koering now considers himself an independent.
