Suspect charged in St. Paul assault rifle killing

A St. Paul man is accused of using an AK-47 assault rifle to gun down another man as they left a house party.

Twenty-year-old Aaron Morrow is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 21-year-old Joe Anthony Rivera early Sunday.

Morrow also is charged with two counts of attempted murder. Rivera's nephew, David Chavez, also was wounded in the shooting, and police say a third man was fired on but not hit.

A second suspect in the shooting was released from jail pending further investigation.

Police say Rivera and Chavez were leaving the party when the second suspect accused Chavez of stealing his cell phone. The complaint says Morrow pulled out the assault rifle and began shooting.

Police later found the cell phone on the floor of the room where the party had been.
