Wally the Beer Man cited for selling to minors
"Wally the Beer Man" won't be hawking beer at Minnesota Twins games during this weekend's regular-season wrapup or the playoffs.
Wally was among eight vendors and concession-stand workers cited for selling to underage people during a compliance check at Thursday night's Twins game against Toronto at Target Field.
Wally, whose real name is Walter NcNeil, is an institution at Twin Cities sports events. He tells WCCO-AM it's the first time he's been cited in his 40 years.
Buffalo, N.Y.-based Sportservice, which runs food and beverage concessions at Twins games, says the eight vendors have been suspended through the playoffs.
Twins spokesman Kevin Smith tells the Star Tribune the vendors were cited by staff members of the Minneapolis licensing bureau.
Minneapolis police Sgt. William Palmer says since the vendors were not arrested, charges could take several weeks.
