Hartman statue to be unveiled in downtown Mpls
Expect a few of Sid Hartman's close personal friends - and maybe a few "geniuses" - to gather when a bronze statue of the veteran sports columnist and radio personality is unveiled Wednesday in downtown Minneapolis.
The slightly larger-than-life statue of Hartman was commissioned to celebrate his 90th birthday. It depicts Hartman with a Star Tribune tucked under his arm and holding a WCCO Radio microphone and an oversized tape recorder.
The statue will be placed next to Target Center before the opening of the Twins-Yankees playoff series at Target Field.
Hartman has worked for Minneapolis newspapers for more than six decades and joined WCCO-AM in 1955. The north Minneapolis native is known for his "close personal friends" like Bob Knight and Lou Holtz, and for calling people who disagree with him "geniuses."
