Hunters rescue couple stranded in Long Lake
A Minnesota couple is thanking strangers for rescuing them from a frightening ordeal on a lake southwest of the Twin Cities.
Krystle Phillipsen says she and her fiance got in their canoe early Sunday on Long Lake in the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge. And within a couple hours, the water became rough, the canoe tipped and dumped them into the lake.
The couple tried flipping the canoe, but it sunk, leaving them stranded. Phillipsen says she grabbed a tree and screamed hysterically.
WCCO-TV reports duck hunters heard Phillipsen's screams, got in their canoes and rescued the couple. Carver County sheriff's deputies and Jordan firefighters arrived and helped the couple.
