Jury acquits 2 men in St. Paul shooting death

A jury has acquitted two men of killing an acquaintance who was high on meth during a St. Paul shootout.

Robert John Sherman, 31, and Larry Joseph Thompson Jr., 29, were charged in the death of Roberto "Bobby" Flores, 38, on July 26, 2009.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports Flores shot his own gun at his alleged assailants. Each side argued the other was the aggressor and various witnesses contradicted one another.

In order to get a murder conviction, the state had to prove the defendants didn't respond in self-defense.
