Minneapolis attorney agrees to disbarment

A former assistant Hennepin County attorney has agreed to be disbarred.

John Paul St. Marie was charged this July with six felony counts of promoting prostitution. The complaint alleges the 66-year-old set up appointments for prostitutes with men he claimed were safe and could pay well.

The state's Office of Lawyers Professional Responsibility filed a petition Thursday to the Minnesota Supreme Court, asking for his disbarment. The office's director, Martin Cole, said Friday that St. Marie agreed to be disbarred but the court has to issue the order.

A message left at the Ramsey County Attorney's office was not immediately returned Friday. A number for St. Marie's attorney, James Dahlquist, ran unanswered Friday.
