The University of Minnesota has named local public relations executive Dave Mona as a special assistant to athletics director Joel Maturi.
Mona assumes his new role next week.
Maturi says the athletics department has completed a new strategic plan, and calls Mona "the perfect fit."
Mona has served as color analyst on Gopher radio broadcasts for the past 13 years and has co-hosted the "Sports Huddle" show on WCCO-AM with Sid Hartman for the past 29 years. He will continue in both those roles while splitting his time between the university and Bloomington-based Weber Shandwick public relations.
Mona and his wife, Linda, led part of the fundraising for TCF Bank Stadium, the Gophers' new football stadium.
