Remember the old "Welcome Wagon" that greeted newcomers to the neighborhood? Minneapolis is about to launch a new version.
City officials are scheduled Thursday to announce a new initiative, called "Hello Neighbor."
The program is designed to personally welcome recent immigrants to Minneapolis neighborhoods.
Volunteers will greet new arrivals at their homes and provide them with a gift bag that includes a refillable Tap Minneapolis water bottle, prepaid calling cards, coupons and information about city services.

About 500 new residents are slated to receive these bags and information during the first year of the initiative.
The program is funded by a grant from the Bush Foundation.
