Mpls to give away radon testing kits

Minneapolis is giving away more than 250 radon test kits as the city aims to increase awareness of the cancer risks of the invisible gas.

The giveaway is set for Friday at Minneapolis Development Review. One kit is available per household, while supplies last.

The Minnesota Department of Health is donating the radon test kits.

Each year, an estimated 21,000 people in the U.S. die of lung cancer as a result of being exposed to elevated levels of radon. Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer for nonsmokers.
