Six felony charges have been filed against a man who was shot by police after he allegedly held his ex-girlfriend and her son at gunpoint in central Minnesota.
Documents filed in Stearns County allege that 21-year-old Nimesh Kanu Patel was planning to kill his former girlfriend, her son and her new boyfriend. The woman had filed for a protective order against Patel.
A complaint says Patel went to the woman's apartment Oct. 2 and held the mother and son captive for hours. Court records say she talked Patel out of killing them and fled.
The St. Cloud Times says Patel called St. Cloud police the next day, officers responded and shot Patel following a standoff.
