Sheriff: Border Patrol distress call is unfounded

The Beltrami County Sheriff's office says a distress call from a U.S. Border Patrol officer has been determined to be unfounded.

In a news release, the sheriff's department reports officials there received notice that a border patrol officer sounded a distress call near Funkley about 8:30 p.m Sunday.

The officer reported he had been stopped by two people in a sports utility vehicle who had forced him into the ditch. The officer also said he had been injured and the suspects fled the scene.

The officer was found, but medical attention was not needed. The FBI determined the incident was unfounded. Messages left at the sheriff's office and the FBI Thursday were not immediately returned.
