2 face federal charges in Mpls coffee shop robbery

Two felons face federal charges in a violent robbery at a Minneapolis coffee shop.

The U.S. Attorney's office says 38-year-old Carlos Maurice Harris of Falcon Heights and 47-year-old Ronald Harold Moore of Inver Grove Heights were indicted Wednesday under the Hobbs Act.

Congress passed the Hobbs Act in 1946. It allows federal prosecutors to prosecute violent habitual criminals who commit armed robbery in places involved in interstate commerce.

Harris and Moore are accused of robbing a Dunn Bros coffee shop in the Uptown neighborhood on Oct. 27. Moore reportedly hit one of the employees in the head with the butt of a gun, and Harris allegedly tied up the two employees, who were kicked and stomped.

Police arrested Harris and Moore shortly after the robbery. Both men are in custody
