Town of Randolph evacuated after ammonia leak

The entire small town of Randolph in southern Dakota County is being evacuated after an ammonia leak was reported Wednesday morning.

Three hundred students in the town's public school have been evacuated, and others are being told to report to the Hampton fire station. About 15 students were taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Randolph City Clerk Sheila Eckstrom says the leak happened about 8:30 a.m. at a fertilizer plant about a block and a half from the school. Eckstrom says it smells pungent. Randolph is home to about 430 people.
