Coach says U of M demoted her for being gay

A former state high school golf champion who thought she would coach the University of Minnesota women's golf team is claiming that she was demoted to a desk job because she is lesbian.

But an attorney for the university denies Katie Brenny's claims. Attorney Mark Rotenberg says Brenny's job responsibilities were discussed with her before she signed on for the job as associate women's golf coach.

Rotenberg and an attorney for Brenny say they are in negotiations to avoid a lawsuit. Brenny's attorney, Donald Chance Mark Jr., says if talking fails, Brenny will sue.

Brenny won the state golf title in 1998, when she was a senior at Little Falls High School.
