Hoping to project a get-to-work image, Gov.-elect Mark Dayton has scheduled a series of inaugural events that will conclude with a ball where blue jeans are encouraged.

Dayton takes his oath next Monday. The swearing in ceremony is set to begin at noon at the Landmark Center in downtown St. Paul. It is open to the public and will be followed by an open house at the State Capitol from 2:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Minnesota's constitutional officers will join Dayton and Lt. Gov-elect Yvonne Prettner Solon for the ceremony.

Other events include a breakfast at an elementary school named after Dayton's former Democratic colleague, the late Sen. Paul Wellstone. He also will hold a Capitol open house and travel the state as the week wears on.

Then, on Saturday evening, there will be what Dayton calls a "People's Inaugural Ball" at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

That event is also open to the public but comes with an admission price of up to $30. The money will go to pay for inaugural events.

Dayton's itinerary - right down to the dress code - is along the lines of the 1983 inaugural for then-Democratic Gov. Rudy Perpich.
