Dayton asks for applicants for Met Council

Gov. Mark Dayton is wasting little time in reshaping the Metropolitan Council. His administration is inviting anyone interested in serving on the 17-member Met Council to apply.

The top job is already filled. Dayton appointed Susan Haigh, CEO of Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity, to chair the Council. However, 16 other Met Council slots are open, and state law gives Dayton the power to fill all of them.

The Met Council is the Twin Cities' regional planning agency. It also operates the regional bus and rail system, treats the region's wastewater and manages a string of regional parks.

An application form is on the Secretary of State's website. A nominating committee will host public meetings throughout the Twin Cities from now through February to hear from applicants.
