Jenni McHugh, facilitator of the monthly Winona Student Parent Group, tells the Winona Daily News of the value of the group to student moms and dads:
“Sometimes just knowing you’re supported and someone recognizes that heavy load is helpful.”
The group aims to invite student parents from Winona State University, Saint Mary’s University and Minnesota State College-Southeast Technical to enjoy family activities and exchange parenting ideas.
June Reineke, director of the WSU Childcare Center, told the Daily News:
“We’re trying to create a center of excellence between early childhood and community resources for parents. If you can support student parents with child care tuition costs, it makes their likelihood to graduate a lot better, and that’s one of our big missions here — supporting student success.”
