Dayton to participate in ice-fishing charity event

Gov. Mark Dayton will participate in a Brainerd ice-fishing event for charity this weekend.

He'll be the first governor to attend the Brainerd Jaycees $150,000 Ice Fishing Extravaganza on Gull Lake on Saturday.

State Rep. John Ward of Brainerd says the governor told him and other House DFLers to inform him of big events in their district where he could greet people.

Lisa Paxton is the chief executive of the Brainerd Lakes Chamber. She says Dayton will have no shortage of hands to shake. Last year's event drew more than 10,000 anglers.

The House DFL Media says the event is believed to be the world's largest ice-fishing event.

The Brainerd Dispatch says the event runs from noon to 3 p.m., with all proceeds donated to more than 50 local charities..
