Pioneer Press editor departing for Cleveland

The editor of the St. Paul Pioneer Press is leaving to become managing editor of The Plain Dealer in Cleveland.

Thomas Fladung, a 28-year newspaper veteran, has been editor of the Pioneer Press since 2005. The 51-year-old Fladung has worked for numerous newspapers, including the Detroit Free Press, The State in Columbia, S.C., and the Akron Beacon Journal.

Fladung is a native of Canton, Ohio and attended the University of Dayton.

The Plain Dealer says Fladung has led newspapers, including the Pioneer Press, through significant challenge and change, revamped online operations and enhanced content.

Fladung starts his new job in Cleveland Feb. 14.
