A Hibbing attorney has won a Democratic primary for a Minnesota House seat last held by former state Rep. Tony Sertich.
Carly Melin, 25, drew more than 2,000 votes in Tuesday's election. That was nearly twice as much as runner-up Shelley Robinson's total. Three other Democrats were well back.
Melin now faces Independent Cynthia Kafut-Hagen and Republican Paul Jacobson in a Feb. 15 special election.
Sertich, a DFLer from Chisholm, resigned to become commissioner of the Iron Range Resources & Rehabilitation Board. Melin once worked as Sertich's legislative intern.
