Police: Man falsely said black male among shooters

Duluth police say they believe a man with a gunshot wound falsely told a 911 operator a black man was among the people he falsely claimed shot him.

The Duluth News Tribune reported Friday that 34-year-old Alcide Thomas Cloutier made the 911 call Jan. 22 after he sustained what police have determined was a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Police spokesman Jim Hansen says wouldn't speculate on why Cloutier said a black male was involved, and that police have no reason to believe it's a racist incident.

Cloutier is now charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and reckless discharge of a firearm. He has not been charged with falsely reporting a crime. The newspaper says he couldn't be reached for comment in the hospital.
