Dayton to address elementary school principals

The annual convention of the Minnesota Elementary School Principals' Association wraps up with an education speech by Gov. Mark Dayton.

Dayton is scheduled to address the convention on Friday morning at the Sheraton Hotel in Bloomington. He's scheduled to discuss the state of education in Minnesota.

When Dayton outlined his education agenda last week, he put a heavy emphasis on early childhood preparation and making sure all students could read well by third grade.

That lines up with the convention's theme, "MESPA Loves to Read." Among other things, the principals attending are learning how to apply the lessons learned from neuroscience to teaching young students.

The association is composed of the state's elementary and middle school principals. The convention started Wednesday.
