Broken water main floods homes on Mpls. block

Minneapolis crews have responded after a water main broke, causing flooding in about a dozen homes and businesses.

Public-works director Steve Kotke says crews will be working around the clock to assess the damage and begin repairs. He says he hopes to have water service restored by Monday.

KSTP-TV says the break occurred Saturday about 3 a.m. when a piece of a 24-inch water main blew out. The cause of the break remains under investigation.

The flooding prompted officials to shut down the entire block. A nearby natural-gas line also had to be shut down.
