The four-month-old puppy whose Minneapolis owner tried mailing the dog to Georgia is available for adoption later this week.

The Poodle-Schnauzer mix named Guess became the property of the city of Minneapolis Monday night after the puppys owner did not post bond. Stacy Champion was not allowed to keep the dog after she was charged with animal cruelty. Postal workers discovered the dog in a sealed box with no air holes after Champion tried mailing the package. Authorities say the puppy likely would have died if shipped.

The Minneapolis Animal Care and Control shelter has cared for the puppy since the incident. KARE-TV says the shelter will make the dog available for adoption later this week.
