A prominent North Dakota political figure and radio talk show host will be undergoing surgery to remove a benign brain tumor.
Joel Heitkamp is a former state legislator who has been mentioned as a possible candidate for governor. He hosts a talk show on KFGO in Fargo.
The 49-year-old Heitkamp had a seizure over the weekend and tests later found the tumor in the area of the brain that controls speech and mood. Heitkamp says doctors have told him he can expect a full recovery.
State Rep. Shirley Meyer on the House floor on Thursday asked for prayers for Heitkamp.
Heitkamp's sister, Heidi, a former state attorney general and candidate for governor, is a breast cancer survivor.
