2 arrested in NE Minnesota double homicide

A couple from Cloquet are under arrest in the January shooting deaths of a couple near Cromwell in northeastern Minnesota.

The Carlton County sheriff's office says a tip from the public led to the arrests Wednesday morning of a 28-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman in Hennepin County. Members of the U.S. Marshals Service, the Minneapolis Fugitive Task Force and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms arrested the suspects.

Victims Kim Schmitz and her boyfriend, Thomas Holm, both 53, were found dead Jan. 9 in their home just outside Cromwell. Holm's burned pickup truck was found the night before near Saginaw, about 35 miles away. A T-shirt was found in the truck.

The suspects are in the Carlton County Jail, awaiting charges.
