Third day of sex offender hearing set for June 10
It will be at least a few months before a special three-judge panel decides if a man committed to Minnesota's treatment program for sex offenders is ready to move a step closer to freedom.
Testimony in the hearing for John Rydberg began last Friday and resumes this Friday. But it will also require a third day, which has now been scheduled for June 10.
Judges Joanne Smith and Kathleen Gearin of Ramsey County and retired judge Leslie Metzen of Dakota County will issue their decision sometime after that.
The 69-year-old Rydberg is seeking a provisional discharge to a Twin Cities halfway house under a list of restrictions including GPS monitoring and continued treatment. It's a step that eventually could make him the first person permanently released from the program.
