Mom accidentally runs over child in Stillwater

Stillwater police say a mother ran over her 1-year-old child with a sport utility vehicle, critically injuring the child.

Police say the mother, a Wisconsin resident, was leaving Stillwater Medical Group just after 10 a.m. Thursday. Sgt. Jeff Stender tells KSTP-TV she had strapped a 3-year-old into a safety seat in the vehicle and then got into the SUV, apparently forgetting about the younger child.

The mother then drove forward, catching the stroller on a bumper and dragging the stroller and child. The woman then took the child back into Stillwater Medical Group which provided immediate care and called 911.

Crews decided to bring the child to Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

Police are investigating with help from the Minnesota State Patrol.
