ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - A Minnesota state senator is hospitalized in fair condition after being hit by a car while running near the Capitol on Wednesday.

Senate GOP spokesman Michael Brodkorb said Sen. Michael Jungbauer was out for a morning jog when a car struck him. Brodkorb says Jungbauer hit his head but was alert and responsive.

Regions Hospital says in a statement that Jungbauer is in fair condition and will stay overnight for observation.

Jungbauer, a Republican from East Bethel, is serving his third term in the state Senate.

The accident comes less than a week after the death of Jungbauer's father.
