Minnesota lawmakers are close to wrapping
up a week-and-a-half of votes on a series of GOP finance bills that
set up budget negotiations with Gov. Mark Dayton.

      The House was planning to debate and vote Wednesday on a budget
bill for state agencies and operations. It contains one of the most
aggressive cuts of the GOP budget bills by reducing state spending
by 34 percent over the next two years. It would reduce the size of
the state workforce by 12 percent, consolidate services, and allow
private outsourcing of some state services.


      The House could also take up a budget bill for health and
welfare programs that critics say will mean deep cuts to services
that benefit the poor and disabled. But that debate could be pushed
to Thursday.
