The Advocate Tribune reports on what people in Granite Falls told a consultant during a study of the region's higher-ed needs:
Dave Kafka, a graduate of Minnesota West (Community and Technical College) and Plant Manager at Marr Valve, noted that about 80 percent of the employees at the manufacturer had graduated from Minnesota West but that nowadays “it is really hard to find trained employees.”
(The consultant) pointed out, “30 percent of kids can’t find jobs, but here we have employees saying they need people ... There seems to be a disconnect between the degrees people are seeking [and existing employment options].”
Overall, many seemed anxious over the future of Minnesota West, the paper reports.
