Driver injures 3 pedestrians in Dinkytown near U

A hit-and-run driver struck three pedestrians as they walked home in Dinkytown near the University of Minnesota campus, police said.
One of the three was critically injured, and the other two had non-life threatening injuries, said Minneapolis Police Sgt. Stephen McCarty. They were taken to Hennepin County Medical Center.
The incident happened at 2 a.m. when the vehicle drove up onto the sidewalk on Fifth Street near the intersection with 12th Avenue. The driver left the scene without leaving any information, McCarty said.
He said police don't yet know whether the person driving the vehicle knew the victims or if alcohol was involved.
"A lot of things are unanswered at this time," he said.
Police are still gathering information and expected to release a vehicle description, but McCarty said the vehicle would have significant front-end damage. Investigators were also looking at surveillance video to see if a camera captured anything on tape.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8744).
