Three locks and dams on Mississippi closed to recreational boats

The Army Corps of Engineers has closed three locks and dams on the Mississippi River to recreational boats.

The three Twin Cities locks are considered unsafe for recreational boats because the high water is flowing too fast. The three locks are the Upper St. Anthony Falls and Lower St. Anthony Falls locks and dams in downtown Minneapolis and Lock and Dam No. 1, next to Minnehaha Park in Minneapolis. They will be closed for about one week.

The Corps says heavy weekend rains caused the river to run higher than normal. It's the second time this season the dams and locks were closed in the Twin Cities because the river level was too high for safe recreational boat traffic, which the Corps defines as flowing at greater than 30,000 cubic feet per second.
