Even though funding is shaky, Minneapolis Community & Technical College is searching for a construction manager to oversee a proposed $9.75 million remodeling of five floors of its 31-year-old “T Building” (Technical Building) downtown, Finance & Commerce reports.
The project would upgrade instructional space for workforce programs. The paper gives more detail:
More specifically, the project would address code issues, upgrade elevator service, improve ventilation and add air conditioning for trades programs in the building’s lower level.
“We call it a workforce project,” (Facilities Director Roger) Broz said. “Really what is driving it is to right-size space and focus on programs that would put students in the workforce. … That is kind of the concept behind it.”
Students attending classes in the building train for a variety of careers including nursing and welding.
The T Building saw repairs to its exterior finish In 2010, the paper writes, and last fall MCTC started a $10 million renovation and expansion of the Helland Student Center, which should be ready in December.
