Short-film contest promotes solar power in Minn.

A group that backs the expanded use of solar power in Minnesota is kicking off a short-film contest.

Environment Minnesota is campaigning for Minnesota to get 10 percent of its energy from solar by 2030. The group says turning to solar would help Minnesota reduce its dependence on imported fossil fuels and cut the pollution they create, while also boosting the economy.

The group has posted the rules on its web site along with a short video to get contestants' creative juices flowing.

The deadline for submissions to the "Putting the Sun to Work For Minnesota" contest is July 18th. Videos should be 30 to 120 seconds. The top prize is $1,500.
