The famous Telemark Lodge in northwestern Wisconsin is back in business.
After years of dealing with different owners and closings, the 1,000-acre resort in Cable reopened Wednesday.
Steve Kaufmann of Telemark Partners won't give details of the sale, but he says the partners have taken over and have sealed a deal to keep Telemark's trails open for next year's American Birkebeiner cross-country ski race.
Kaufmann tells Wisconsin Public Radio the partners plan to renovate Telemark, which traces events back to 1946 and its 180-room lodge to 1972. Telemark will host the Olympic training group CXC Skiing beginning in July.
Kaufmann says the sale is scheduled to close next week. Telemark currently has 12 employees but Kaufmann expects to add more soon. At one time, Telemark employed 200 people.
