Twin Cities celebrate Bike Walk Week

It's Twin Cities Bike Walk Week, and commuters are being urged to walk or bike to work or the ballgame.

The week's highlight is Bike Walk to Work Day on Thursday. In Minneapolis, bikers and walkers will gather at the downtown Government Center Plaza from 6:30-9 a.m. for free food, music and prize giveaways.

Downtown St. Paul's celebration will be held at the same time at Rice Park. Bloomington will hold an after-work celebration from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday at REI Bloomington.

On Sunday, an open streets celebration will be held in Minneapolis. Lyndale Avenue South between 22nd and 42nd Streets will be closed to motor vehicles from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. so bicyclists, walkers, skaters and wheelchair users can use the street.

And baseball fans are urged to bike to Sunday's Twins-Rangers game at Target Field. ---
