People know Jay Weiner from his many years as a Star Tribune sports reporter, or as the author of This is Not Florida, a book about the Franken/Coleman recount. You may even remember hearing Weiner's sports commentary on Minnesota Public Radio.
Weiner is starting another high profile job: he'll serve as speech writer for Eric Kaler, the next president of the University of Minnesota. His first day on the job is July 1st, the same day Kaler takes over.
Since leaving the Strib, Weiner has been freelancing for MinnPost, and recently wrote a profile of outgoing U of M president Robert Bruininks for Minnesota Alumni Magazine, the publication of the University of Minnesota Alumni Association.
This won't be his first stint at the U. He is a former policy fellow at the Humphrey Institute for Public Affairs and has been an adjunct journalism professor.
