American Crystal Sugar to build permanent dike in Moorhead

American Crystal Sugar Co. is planning permanent flood protection for its headquarters on the banks of the Red River in Moorhead.

President Dave Berg tells KFGO radio that officials had to scramble to pile sandbag levees during 2009 flooding. This year, tons of clay have been hauled in for a permanent levee.

The dike will cost more than $100,000. Berg says it's worth it because the levee will protect the corporate offices and the sugar beet cooperative's computer system.
