Mpls police search for arson suspects

Minneapolis police investigators are looking for suspects in three arson fires which damaged several garages in south Minneapolis this weekend.

The Minneapolis Fire Department received three separate fire calls to addresses within a seven-block radius, according to police. The calls came within a 40-minute period starting about 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

The fires caused more than $35,000 in damages, according to police Sgt. Stephen McCarty. He is asking people who live near the 5600 block of Dupont Ave. S, and the 5700 and 5800 blocks of Pleasant Ave S. to be on the lookout for suspicious activity.

"I think the location and the time indicates that it's possibly the same suspect," he said.

McCarty says police don't have anyone in custody at this time. A reward of up to $2,500 is available for information that leads to arrests and convictions for the fires.
