Dunwoody Academy will move from its North High home

Dunwoody Academy charter school is moving out from its home of two years -- beneath the roof of North High School in Minneapolis.

Leaders of Dunwoody Academy will spend the rest of this summer moving, although they can't yet say just where to. Though each remained separate schools, Dunwoody Academy has been housed under the same roof as North High for the past two years.

The building became a center of controversy in fall of 2010 when the Minneapolis school district recommended closing North High. It was unclear if Dunwoody would also have to move.

Community members convinced the school district to keep North open, but Benito Matias, Dunwoody director, told MPR news in an email his school will leave. No reason was given, and he was unavailable for an interview.

Dunwoody's enrollment dropped during its two years at North, from about 200 prior its move in to 136 this past year.
