Teen apparently washed away in Duluth

DULUTH, Minn. (AP) - Rescue crews are searching for a teenage boy who apparently was swept away while swimming in a rain-swollen river in Duluth.

Police and fire crews were called around 4 p.m. Tuesday to a popular swimming area on Amity Creek.

Assistant Fire Chief Richard Mattson tells the Duluth News Tribune that friends apparently reported losing sight of the boy.

Mattson says the boy may have been seen in the Lester River downstream.

The U.S. Coast Guard and St. Louis County Rescue Squad have joined police officers and firefighters searching for the boy. The Superior, Wis., Police dive team has also joined in the search. (Copyright 2011 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
