An 18-year-old college student from Central Minnesota is the new Princess Kay of the Milky Way.

Mary Zahurones of Pierz was crowned the 58th Princess Kay Wednesday night at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. She represents Morrison County.

Zahurones will spend the next year as the official goodwill ambassador for Minnesota's nearly 4,500 dairy farmers. She will attend the University of Minnesota Twin Cities this fall as a pre-med student.

As one of her first official duties, Zahurones will have her likeness carved in a 90-pound block of butter on the opening day of the State Fair Thursday.

Twelve county dairy princesses competed for the Princess Kay title. This year's runners-up are Stephanie Kasper of Owatonna, representing Steele County, and Olmsted County representative Theresa Twohey of Stewartville.
