Zellers talks to Minnesotans at state fair

Republican House Speaker Kurt Zellers heard from both critics and fans Wednesday during an appearance at the Minnesota State Fair.

Some fairgoers gave Zellers an earful about the state government shutdown and budget impasse that ended about six weeks ago. Others praised him for holding the line on government spending. Zellers said most Minnesotans understand that the budget impasse was the result of the state's divided government, and he isn't concerned about the reception he might get this year.

"We're here to listen, give some information if people are maybe confused about something," Zellers said. "But you know that's our job as elected officials to come out listen to people."

A few people asked Zellers about the prospects of a new Minnesota Vikings stadium. Earlier this week, DFL Gov. Mark Dayton said the stadium was the top issue fairgoers were asking him about.
