The University of Minnesota football team plays its first game of the season Saturday on the road against the University of Southern California. Gopher fans are optimistic about the future because of the team's new coach, Jerry Kill.

"The one word people use to sum up Jerry Kill, and you hear it all the time, is 'genuine,'" Star Tribune sportswriter Phil Miller said. "You did not hear that with his predecessor."

Miller spoke with MPR's Cathy Wurzer on Morning Edition.
