No leads in case of baby found in Mississippi

The Winona County Sheriff's Department has pursued more than 50 leads since a newborn's body was found in the Mississippi River but none have yielded substantial information.

Boaters found the baby girl floating in a trash bag Sept. 5, about 6 miles south of Winona.

Winona County Sheriff Dave Brand says investigators have also spoken with most of the boat owners in the area but no leads have emerged.

Earlier this month, investigators released photos of items found with the baby with hopes someone will recognize them. The items included two 4-inch porcelain bells that depict angels, two 9-inch angel figurines and a bracelet with an eye pendant.

The Winona Daily News reports the Dakota County Medical Examiner is performing an autopsy on the girl.
